Don’t go to the grave until…

We have entered our 4th month of church planting & pioneering in St. Augustine and we could not be more excited.  I don’t know about you, but I have always enjoyed learning.  Last year I was challenged with this statement while I was part of a church planter residency program.  The statement was simply this… ‘Don’t go to the grave without knowing yourself’.  Think about that…are there people who do not know who they are?  I would say yes.  I would admit that I am discovering new things about myself every day as part of our new adventure as a family.

Nothing encourages you to know who you are more than stepping out of a boat into the big waves of life.  What does that mean?   Well when we leave the comfort of our day to day and take a step towards our life’s calling we really begin to live.  It’s at this point that we really see how microscopic we are, how fragile we are, and how little we know of ourselves.

Life is an adventure!  We are not guaranteed next year or for that matter tomorrow.  So what are you doing to know who you are?  Maybe a good place to start is to answer the question ‘why are you here?’.  Maybe another good question to ask yourself would be ‘what is stopping you from doing what you were designed to do?’.

As I have engaged the call on my life, pursued another marathon adventure, and jumped with into the cross-fit life with both feet, I am here to say that I have enjoyed this process of knowing who I am.  I am a man of faith.  I believe that I have a purpose and that everything I do is to fulfill that purpose.  I know that we are here to plant a church.  I thrive on leaving everything on the field (as they say); Thankfully running and crossfit have helped with this.  At the end of each day I sleep well.   I close my eyes knowing I did everything I could to inch towards my goals.  I know that I need to demonstrate this type of crazy faith to my children. They need to see the value in pursuing your calling.

I don’t always make the right decisions in life, but I will say this.  I would rather be moving towards something rather than sitting stagnant.  Dr. Crawford Loritt’s said this to our cohort last year. ‘On the way to doing something for God, you become something’. Isn’t that what life is about?  Becoming something?  So I encourage you, don’t go to the grave without knowing who you are and more importantly why you are here.
